"Easter Potatoes" Might Actually Be a Thing This Year

With egg prices so high, will this trend actually take off this year?

"The New York Times" says eggs are so expensive, people are planning to dye POTATOES for Easter.

It's not a new idea. The marketing group Potatoes USA tried to make it a thing in 2023 as food prices were rising. PETA also wanted the White House Easter Egg Roll to use potatoes last year.

The "New York Times" story says videos on how to dye or paint potatoes have been trending recently. So it's becoming less of a joke idea, and more of an actual strategy for saving money.

The Easter Bunny could also opt to hide plastic eggs full of candy. But that cuts out the whole egg-dyeing tradition for kids.

A lot of the big organized egg hunts are using plastic ones this time. A guy who runs one in Ohio said "plastic eggs can be just as fun," but he's hoping to get back to using real ones next year.
