Get ready to never have to adjust the volume of a video again on YouTube because the platform just announced a new feature guaranteed to "normalize" the audio you hear in any YouTube video.
The feature is called "Stable Volume" and is currently being rolled out with several other features on YouTube, but it essentially can smooth out any loud pops or quiet whispers in a video so that you don't accidentally blow out your speakers or headphones when an ad plays.
Stable Volume is on by default, but users can access this using the gear icon in the app, tapping “Additional settings,” and toggling it on or off. At the same time, YouTube is also testing a new voice recognition feature this week that will allow you to hum, sing, or play a song’s melody into the app to be identified.
YouTube also unveiled the ability to lock the video player on your phone to avoid accidental taps and swipes if you happen to be playing a video while getting ready for bed or while on a run.
