A Maryland crossing guard is being celebrated for her heroic efforts.
Corporal Annette Goodyear, who works for the North East Police Department, was shown on surveillance video saving a child from being hit by a car at a crosswalk near a school on Friday (February 4), which was shared by Cecil County Executive Danielle Hornberger on her Facebook account.
The video shows Goodyear push the child out of the way of the vehicle, which continues to drive through the cross walk and strikes Goodyear.
"It was strange. As I’m lying there I’m thinking to myself this actually did happen. I didn’t even know what to think about at that point," Goodyear told FOX 5 DC. "It didn’t seem real as it was happening."
"For me, I’m a parent as well, and it’s like I just want to make sure all these children are safe, and it didn’t matter if I was struck or not," Goodyear added.
Goodyear was taken to the hospital for treatment but released shortly after and returned to the school to check on the student, who she was told was shaken up and went back to her home with her family.
The crossing guard decided to visit the girl at her home, which she described to FOX 5 DC.
"She came down the stairs saw me standing there and as she was walking toward the door she was getting teary-eyed, and you could see it and when she got teary-eyed, then her dad started getting teary-eyed, and we all started at that point," Goodyear said about her visit to the girl's home. "I was just so thankful she was standing there and that she was ok."
