George Strait is the "King of Country Music!" That's a fact that country fans will all agree on.

Selling more than 68.5 million records, landing 33 platinum or multi-platinum albums, and earning a ton of award show hardware along the way, George has been the focus of our attention for over 40 years.

He is considered one of the most influential and popular recording artists of all time and is known for pioneering the neotraditionalist country style with a cowboy hat and five-string guitar. But, we bet you don't know these five facts.

Let's get 'Strait' to it.

"5 Things You Didn't Know About George Strait:"

  1. George is not a member of the Grand Ole Opry. George is noted as one of the greatest country singers of all time but hasn't been enlisted as a member of the Opry, probably due to the fact that he lives in Texas, making it difficult to make regular appearances from the iconic circle.
  2. George was raised by his father, John, who was a math teacher and farmer. The country superstar wasn't immersed in music like you would expect. Instead, he listened to mostly news and farm reports.
  3. George has 60 number one hits and holds the record for the most No. 1 of any country artist. He also holds 23 CMA trophies, which is the record for the most CMA's ever awarded.
  4. George has released at least one country single every calendar year since 1981, stacking up to more than 90 singles over the course of his career. Shockingly, some of our favorite George Strait songs like "Run," "The Fireman," and "You'll Be There" never topped the charts.
  5. George began his career enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1971. His first band was a group called "Rambling Country."
