TMSG: Coin Worth $1,300 Dropped In Salvation Army Kettle

This time of year we’re used to hearing that familiar bell ringing and seeing the red bucket outside stores as we do our holiday shopping. It’s the Salvation Army bell ringers, raising money for those in need, a handful of spare change at a time. But one anonymous giver in Jefferson City, Missouri was a little more generous with the coins this year.

Charles Clark has been ringing a bell for the Salvation Army for five years and recently got a rare coin dropped in his red bucket. It’s an uncirculated 1998 American Eagle one-ounce Gold Proof coin. And it’s worth more than a pretty penny, it’s currently valued at $1,300.

The money from the red kettles helps fund shelters, food pantries, helps with utility and rental assistance programs, as well as the foundation’s Christmas services. The Salvation Army doesn’t know who their generous mystery donor is, but they’re grateful for the gift.
