Dan + Shay Strip Down 'I Should Probably Go To Bed' At 2020 ACM Awards

Dan + Shay brought their new single, "I Should Probably Go To Bed," to the Grand Ole Opry stage during the 55th annual Academy of Country Music awards on Wednesday night (September 16).

The duo showcased their harmonic skills with a stripped-down performance featuring Shay Mooney seated behind the grand piano and Dan Smyers at the mic stand.

"What to expect from our performance is gonna be amazing, it’s gonna be so good." Mooney said ahead of their performance. "No, I hope that’s it’s gonna be amazing and so good. This is a very hard song to sing, very nerve-wracking, we haven’t done this a lot really since quarantine happened. This song in particular is a very difficult song to sing and play on piano, so we got a lot of pressure on us but we’re really excited you know this is gonna be kind of our first time being able to perform this song on tv and it’s nerve-wracking but it’s also very exciting cause we haven’t got to do this in a long time."

"I Should Probably Go To Bed," co written by Smyers and Mooney alongside Sean Douglass and Jason Evigan, was released in July. The track follows the duo's hit collaboration with Justin Bieber, "10,000 Hours" and their 2018 self-titled third album.

This year’s ACM Awards were rescheduled from the original Las Vegas date in April due to the coronavirus pandemic. The 2020 ACM Awards were broadcasted live from three iconic venues: Grand Ole Opry House, Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium and The Bluebird Cafe.

Additional performers for the night included Taylor Swift, Blake Shelton featuring Gwen Stefani, Carrie Underwood, Trisha Yearwood, Kane Brown, Luke Bryan, Eric Church, Florida Georgia Line, Mickey Guyton and Morgan Wallen, who performed at the Opry. Gabby Barrett, Riley Green, Kelsea Ballerini, Old Dominion and Thomas Rhett featuring Jon Pardi, performed from the Ryman alongside Ballerini. Jimmie Allen, Luke Combs, Miranda Lambert featuring songwriters Natalie Hemby and Luke Dick and Tim McGraw took the stage at The Bluebird.

Dan + Shay went into the ACM Awards as the most nominated duo of 2020. The pair was crowned Duo of the Year on Wednesday night, marking their second consecutive win in the category.
