Carrie Underwood Forced Mike Fisher To Retire For Second Baby?

Did Carrie Underwood force Mike Fisher to retire so they can have a second baby? That’s the claim in this week’s tabloids. Gossip Cop, however, can reveal what’s really going on.

“Carrie Underwood: Baby #2 To Save Marriage,” reads a headline in the new issue of Star, which contends, “The country superstar pushed hubby Mike Fisher to quit pro hockey so they could work on their troubled relationship and having another child together.” After Fisher announced his retirement earlier this month, the tabloid is now claiming Underwood “made sure Mike understood it was the right time” to call it quits on his playing days.

A so-called “source” is quoted as saying, “Carrie told Mike in no uncertain terms to hang up his skates, in a dramatic attempt to get more together time to mend their troubled relationship.” But the gossip magazine’s supposed snitch doesn’t seem to have first-hand knowledge to back that assertion up. “I heard that she had become really unhappy with the situation. Having Mike home will be one solution, and I believe she hopes that having another baby together will bring them even closer than when they first fell in love,” the purported tipster is quoted as saying.

What someone “heard” and “believes” is not a substitute for facts. Similarly, an alleged “insider” uses phases like “I’m sure” and “she must’ve been.” Those also are not factual statements. They are guesses. And this article follows an April cover story about the couple that was also filled with guesswork. In that piece, the publication claimed Underwood was “trapped in a bad marriage” and speculated she was trying to avoid a split. Now the outlet is using Fisher’s retirement to claim they’re working on their relationship.

Star took real news and gave it an untrue spin, and frankly, this angle doesn’t even make much sense. Given that Underwood would be the one carrying a child, it’s not necessary for Fisher to retire for them to have another baby. Plenty of sports stars have big families. And while the tabloid is trying to make hay out of the athlete being on the road so much for his career, the same could be said of the singer, who has gone on four major tours in the last seven years.

Underwood may indeed one day have a second child. And Fisher being retired could certainly help when it comes to raising multiple kids. But his retirement, Gossip Cop is told, has nothing to do with his wife forcing him to do it to have a baby and save their marriage.
